A holiday can mean different things to different people. For some people a holiday simply means getting out of the rat-race to spend time with family and friends. For people who are more adventurous, a holiday may mean backpacking to some exotic island or country. However for most of us, a holiday simply means lying around on a white sandy beach sipping cocktail and a reading a good book.
Sometimes people don't really know what to do with their spare time during their days off work. They don't take the time to plan - to ask themselves what activity they would like to do, who they want to visit or how much money they want to spend. Instead they wait until the last minute before packing up their luggage to travel off somewhere. However, if you want to have a good holiday you need to put in some extra work and plan your holidays far in advance. That way your vacation remains within your budget, and you will have a more enjoyable experience.
Rat-race: An exhausting routine (such as a high pressured job).
Backpacking: Hiking or touring with a backpack.
Cocktail: A mixed drink.
Luggage: A case for carrying your belongings.
Vacation: A time for rest and leisure (another term for holiday).
