Effective Planning

To effectively manage your day, experts believe that you have to develop good planning skills and work habits. Some people use e-mails, cellphones and PDA's (personal digital assistants) to help them plan their work. Take for example, the US Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice. Condoleeza Rice is a great multi-tasker. She keeps her agenda in her head, uses her cellphone heavily and relies on her staff to push her work forward.

However, some people do not have any personal strategies or staff to help them manage their time. Instead they try their best to focus on what is most important, and to do what they can with the time that they have. David Baltimore, a famous biomedical researcher and Nobel Prize winner copes like the rest of us. Mr. Baltimore says: "My desks, my chairs, my floors are cluttered", and "you have a hierarchy of what's important, like your family, your dog, your friends and your students . as for the lesser matters, let it sit in the pile and see if they will go away".
