Sleep has been referred to by many things - "catching some Z's" if you want to go to sleep, or "he's slumbering away" if you want to say that someone is asleep, and "rouse him from his kip" if you want to wake someone up. All these words are used to describe that natural state of rest during which time we suspend all consciousness of the world around us.
Many people believe that in order for us to be productive, we need to get at least eight hours of sleep. Over sleeping can cause you to become lazy and unmotivated, but lack of sleep over time will impair your general ability to cope with stress. Some people don't like sleeping early, they are naturally more active at night or they think that sleep is a waste of time. These people are night owls; they prefer to work until very late at night.
Dreaming is also an important part of sleep. It is said that dreams are simply recollections of what we experience during the day. Some experts believe that dreams are reflections of our deepest hopes and desires, while others believe that dreams can reveal what will happen to us in the future. Many people try to interpret their dreams; they think it's a of finding out about what will happen to them and how they can control their future.
Slumber (slumbering): Another term for sleep.
Rouse: To awaken someone.
Consciousness: To have full awareness of what is going on around you.
Night owls: A person who likes to be active at night.
Interpret: To make sense or give an interpretation of something.
