Finding A Free Server, and Using Netmeeting to Add a Contact and Place a Call

To use NetMeeting you need to hook up and find contacts on an ILS (Internet Locator Server) Server. An ILS server contains a list of people who have logged in, and are currently connected to the server using NetMeeting.

Microsoft no longer maintains its own ILS Directory Server for NetMeeting, which is still set as the default ILS server when you try to connect. Many companies maintain ILS Directory Servers that you can use for free. To contact someone, you will need to ask that person to log into the same ILS server that you are using.

Instructions

The following instructions will help you find, connect and call someone on an ILS Server who is using NetMeeting.

1. First do an internet search for an ILS Server using your favorite search engine. For a list of ILS servers visit http://www.netmeetingserver.net/. Many ILS servers are community based, and provide free services to their members.

3. Open NetMeeting.

4. Go to the Tools > Options menu.

5. Fill in your (1) personal details in the options menu, and (2) add the name of the ILS Server (ils.hol.gr) to the directory settings pull down menu. Once everything is complete, (3) click the OK button and NetMeeting will automatically log into the ils.hol.gr server.
