In his book "What Color is Your Parachute"; author Dick Bolles explains that the people who succeed in their chosen profession all have one thing in common - they work in career fields that interests them, and which allows them to use their favorite transferable skills. Your transferable skills are the skills that you enjoy using, while the fields that interests allows you to channel and employ your favorite skills in a certain career field. Bolles goes on to explain that these successful people begin by first identifying their transferable skills, or the skills that they enjoy using most, and than apply in jobs that interest them. You need to know your transferable skills to know if online tutoring is something you will enjoy doing.

Take dexterity, as an example of a transferable skill. Dexterity is being skillful in using ones hands to perform certain tasks.  If dexterity is a skill that you enjoy using most, it is likely that you will use the same skill over and over again. It is also likely that you'll enjoy your work more, because you are given the opportunity to apply the skills you most enjoy using. For example, you may apply for work in say the arts - modeling clay, making pottery or creating sculptures. There are many, many other skills that you may have used when you were young, or that you still use. Contrary to popular beliefs, skills are not limited to any particular field of work. In fact any skill that you enjoy using is transferable - whether in teaching online English or in some other career fields. The most important thing is that you will be content and enjoy what you do when you are able to use your skills within a field that is of interest to you most.
